Don't let eScan's modest and unassuming website fool you, they do have a few third-party certifications for their antivirus abilities and they provide a comprehensive internet security suite. This Netherlands-based internet security company provides 24/7 customer support and automatic critical Microsoft updates. This all-inclusive suite includes everything from laptop-specific settings to fullscreen modes to zero-day malware protection.

Though eScan has not yet received certifications from AV-Test or the International Computer Security Association, they have passed tests with VB 100%, West Cost Labs (WCL) and AV-Comparatives. Since 2003, eScan has passed 29 VB 100% tests (and failed 11) and earned a rating of "Advanced" by AV-Comparatives for antivirus detection. As recently as May of 2011, they also passed WCL tests for their antivirus desktop protection running Windows 7. With the addition of a few more positive test results from a variety of testing labs, they may quickly move up to compete against some of their major competitors.

eScan offers a variety of license options for this internet security suite, including protection for up to five Windows-based computers for up to three years. This software included just about every feature we were looking to find in this type of security software, including parental controls, a game mode, network protection, USB device scanning and email attachment scanning. It also provides all internet security elements such as virus detection and removal, antiphishing, antiadware, antispam, rootkit detection, offensive content blocking and data protection.

This eScan internet security suite also includes some useful additional tools like file and folder protection, privacy protection, a virtual keyboard, laptop settings, system tools and application control. This software can scan all files types, including those attached to emails, those contained on a disc, or those saved on a USB-connected device. The virtual keyboard is a tool that few internet security products include. Virtual keyboards are a useful antiphishing tool. They provide a safe zone for entering personal information such as passwords or account numbers into websites. Many virtual keyboards also make it difficult for those looking over your shoulder to discern what you are typing.

eScan provides 24/7 online support via email, chat and actively supported forums. You can also contact them with questions regarding the software or your account by telephone during standard business hours. This security software is available in nearly 15 languages, among them English, French, German, Russian and Korean. Summary:

This eScan internet security product is surprisingly straightforward and simple to use. It includes basic and advanced configuration options, and the parental control tools are easy to configure and implement. They have also passed a few major third-party tests to demonstrate that their software has the ability to protect your computer and personal information from known and emergent threats. If this software continues to prove that it has the ability to protect from malware and zero-day threats, it may prove a formidable component in the competitive internet security arena.
