The Norman Security Suite provides antivirus protection, an intrusion guard, a firewall, parental controls, antispam filters and privacy tools for Windows Vista and 7 machines. They offer a generous internet security suite license agreement that includes a year of protection for up to three PCs for one low price. You can also purchase two or three year license packages.
To determine antivirus protection abilities we looked at recent Windows 7 test scores as well as Norman's overall history of test results. Unfortunately, the software has yet to prove it can protect consistently. The most recent AV-Test scores are quite low, with an average of 39% for their Windows 7 tests. VB100 has tested Norman security products 72 times since 1998, and they have passed 49 times and failed 23 times. Their most recent VB100 fail was in August of 2011 running Windows Vista. They do not have test results from International Computer Security Association labs, West Coast Labs or AV-Comparatives. The certifications Norman lists on their website are primarily OPSWAT software compatibility certifications rather than antivirus test results.
Inconsistent test scores aside, the Norman Security Suite includes a full range of internet protection tools. It also offers a wide selection of configuration options, from hands-off default options to fine tweaking options for advanced users. The homepage provides an easy-to-understand overview of the basics such as the number of items in quarantine, incidences the firewall has blocked, the number of spam emails captured and how many elements the parental controls have blocked. All protection modules include report and log views so you can see the details of what the software has deleted or blocked. This software also has intrusion guard and privacy protection tools to protect your private information from being accessed or accidently shared online. They also have included with the Norman Security Suite an improved ability to run less intrusively and a stronger malware cleaner.
Should you require assistance with your software, you can contact this Norwegian internet security company by telephone or email. However, telephone support is not free; you'll have to pay a per-incident fee for direct telephone support. Free, unassisted support offered online includes FAQs, a PDF user manual, a forum, support articles and a free malware cleaner. You can also follow Norman on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn.
Though Norman includes a long list of certifications on their website, they are not the awards and certifications we were looking to find. The tests they list have more to do with enterprise-level compatibility rather than antivirus protection. In order to recommend the Norman Security Suite to our readers, we would like to see more third-party test certifications and awards coupled with a consistent test history.
Pros
One Norman license can protect up to three computers, and this software is prepared to work with Windows 8.
Cons
Norman's test results are inconsistent, ranging from too low to be trusted to passing. We would like to see more reliable test scores to ensure that it can provide dependable protection.
This internet security suite has the basics covered; however, it has yet to earn a consistent track record for antivirus detection and removal.
