Norton 360 misses 2005 viruses

We have Norton 360 software installed and operating across 3 machines. Viruses entered through a pen drive (memory stick)and Norton missed at least 2 of them. AVG Free picked them up. The cheek of the issue is that Norton offered to have a technician remove the viruses at a cost of £69-00. I have contracted for anti-virus protection. I would have been less critical if new viruses were missed but the infections found by AVG are dated 2005.
