A good Premium Security Suite will have a few PC Utility Tools, which is essentially just the icing on the cake. One of the tools we found most helpful with this product was the restore option. This recovers any file you’ve backed up. You can even recover it remotely on the internet so you can call on a file even if you’re nowhere near your computer.
However, G Data lacks some of the specific tools we praised our top products for possessing. The main thing is an advanced diagnostics tool, including a graph or a chart. There is nothing that breaks down what has been scanned, what state the various sections of your computer are in, or even a suggestion button which gives options of how to fix a problem.
Sensitive documents, priceless pictures, precious family videos; all are safe under the supervision of G Data Backup. We were able to back up all of our files in three separate locations using this software. The first is an online storage area. This can be accessed from the G Data homepage. We were also able to backup our information onto a disc, which is a great feature because you can’t get online to retrieve your backed up files if your computer gets stolen. A secure section of your computer is also allocated for files once you’ve decided what you want to backup.
We also appreciated how easy the backup process was. Simply select which types of files you want backed up, and click the button.
G Data isn’t thick with additional features; however, it does offers some important tools, the first being Parental Controls. With this feature you can manage internet access, the amount of time spent on the computer and specific sites. It also has some of the tools needed to prevent ID theft such as email protection, web protection and phishing protection. However, these work as separate functions within the program and are not designed to entirely protect your identity.
There is also no mobile device security, which we think G Data should consider implementing in their next version seeing as the prominence of iPhones and BlackBerrys mean more is being done with mobile devices.
