Avira SmallBusiness Suite is another good small business internet security suite that provides the essential protection for desktop workstations, file servers and exchange servers. The suite is composed of Avira AntiVir Professional, AntiVir Server, AntiVir Exchange + AntiSpam and the Avira Security Management Center. These components work together to protect your company on several levels.

While the suite is a good security solution, it lacks a file-backup tool. It also lacks comprehensive customer support. Nonetheless, it receives excellent scores by the certification bodies we considered in our evaluation.

Certifications:

Avira is certified by four of the five certification bodies we considered in our evaluation. Virus Bulletin ranks it in the 90-percent range for all the major categories gives it a 99 percent score in its protection against Trojans and worms. It is ISCA certified in both cleaning and detection, and it's certified by both AV-Test.org and AV-Comparatives.org.

Detection & Cleaning:

While using the Avira SmallBusiness Suite, you don’t have to worry about viruses and a variety of other malware. The suite provides good anti-virus protection, real-time web-traffic monitoring and rootkit detection. Its Advanced Heuristic Analysis and Detection (AHeAD) technology takes a proactive approach, locating malware that is designed to bypass security software.

Anti-virus protection is available for the workstation PCs network wide, and it's available for your file servers and exchange servers, as well. Avira utilizes advanced technology that scans even compressed and encrypted files on your system using recursion depth adjustments.

Internet Protection:

Avira effectively detects and protects computers from spyware and adware, which are malicious programs intending to steal identification information and business information. Avira SmallBusiness Suite also includes advanced protection from rootkits and has repair functionality.

The AntiVir Exchange component provides email protection for your entire company. The software scans all emails (inbound and outbound) in real time and is quite versatile with various configurations. AntiVir Exchange also scans email attachments including compressed files.

Along with protection from email-borne threats and attachments, Avira protects your employees from spam. The Avira AntiSpam component makes sure spam – whether it's illegal, dangerous or just plain annoying – doesn't end up in your employees' inboxes and subsequently take up time and resources.

Management Features:

The Avira SmallBusiness Suite offers a number of layers of protection for your small business, including a firewall at the workstation level. Another nice feature of the suite is that while you can manage it from a central location, you can also configure it to be managed at the user level.

Ease of Use:

The interface and simple navigation add to the ease of use of the Avira SmallBusiness Suite. The solution is specifically designed for the unique variables that small businesses present, but it won’t slow your system down. With effective resource management and small updates, you and your employees won’t be bogged down with security.

Avira makes it easy for the IT administrator doing all the hard work, even though it has powerful, advanced features. It provides central management that gives you the ability to monitor your system's security overall. Advanced alerting will keep you notified and up to date. The Security Management Center, as it's called, is easy to install and configure.

Help & Support:

The support for Avira isn’t overly impressive, but it should get the job done. When you buy the suite, you get installation and configuration support by phone or email for only two weeks. After that, you’re pretty much on your own unless you upgrade to a support package (Gold or Platinum).

Overall, the Avira SmallBusiness Suite is a comprehensive internet security solution that provides a good deal of protection and has scalable options. The suite is more than capable of keeping your business resources safe and protecting you on a number of levels. The suite is certainly worthy of considering for your small business's security needs.
