Seamlessly integrates essential technologies such as antivirus, antispyware, firewall, intrusion prevention, device and application control. Like many other business security software, the application can be controlled from a single console, freeing up time for IT people everywhere.
Symantec Endpoint Protection can be purchased for as few as 5 computers up to over 1,000. Licenses will start at $51.60 per license.
The firewall is configurable to block any ports the user specifies. In addition, other ports can be opened permanently or opened or closed on a scheduled basis. The firewall does a good job at keeping unwanted attacks out of your network. The firewall doesn’t put a noticeable drain on system resources either.
Symantec is the only company to have received 41 consecutive VB100 awards, so you know they know a thing or two when it comes to viruses. With the device control feature you can control which peripherals can be connected to a machine. Terminals can be locked down to prevent connections from thumb drives and other USB devices. This can help sensitive information from being stolen or transmitted and keeps viruses from spreading throughout the network.
The proactive threat scanning helps keep your systems safe from even new viruses. TruScan scores both the good and bad behavior of unknown applications, resulting in more accurate malware prevention. This can help to detect malware without the need to setup custom rules and configurations while also lowering the number of false positives.
Like its antivirus application, the antispyware feature can proactively prevent spyware from infecting your systems. It actively seeks rootkits that are designed to phish your system for sensitive information. Once a rootkit is detected, it is automatically removed from all affected systems.
Endpoint protection allows administrators to control access to specific processes, files and folders. Administrators can also restrict access to system registries and process control. This allows administrators to restrict certain activities deemed suspicious or high risk. Ultimately this prevents malware from spreading and locks down endpoints to prevent data theft.
Symantec Endpoint Protection was a little more advanced system than your basic security suite. As such there was a little steeper learning curve to using the interface. It was clear that the software wasn’t designed with the average computer user in mind. Trained network administrators shouldn’t have any trouble learning the various ins and outs of the software.
Installing the Endpoint software was simple and easy. The setup required little user input and the default settings were sufficient for most business applications. Of course the settings are changeable once the software is installed and can be tweaked to the user’s preference.
Symantec offers a variety of support options. Like most any software there is e-mail support as well as phone support, although Symantec will most likely charge an extra fee for phone support. For those with a little extra time, there is a online support, which can take some time to get someone on the other end, but is useful once you do get a hold of someone.
Symantec Endpoint Security is a powerful small business solution which is easily managed from a central location freeing up time and resources. The included features work well and will help keep safe the assets of your business.
