Guardian Digital’s Internet Productivity suite is designed for those who use and rely on a Linux operating system. The Security suite provides small and mid-sized companies with complete internet services including network intrusion detection as well as a complete e-mail system featuring CAPE Center which provides antivirus and anti-spam proctection.
The firewall allows the user to protect corporate interests by controlling access to incoming and outgoing network traffic. Data hiding using Network Address Translation (NAT) along with port forwarding and application-level access restrictions provide bulletproof protection for internal networks.
The administrator can also create groups of users that are authorized to access internet resources and restrict access to applications such as executable files. The software can generate extensive reports including hourly, daily, and monthly statistics.
The antivirus scan can scan your systems to keep them virus free. The virus scans can be scheduled and it also scans incoming data in real time as it enters the proxy. It can then alert the user of potential problems. The software is kept up-to-date automatically to keep you protected from the latest virus threats.
Aside from its virus protection, Guardian doesn’t do much in the way of spyware. At least it doesn’t have a function specifically for spyware. Its virus protection service does scan all incoming and outgoing traffic, so most malicious software should be caught. We would still like to see a dedicated antispyware function included.
Guardian Digital’s security suite can create easy-to-use charts and graphs to help administrators assess current security risks and threats. Information such as frequency of attacks and attacks originating from a specific IP address helps administrators track potential offenders.
The suite can also assign an assessment of the security risk to each attack, helping administrators make better decisions of where to allocate system resources.
It is apparent that Guardian Digital’s Internet Security Suite was designed for professionals who know what they are doing. It lacks the easy-to-use interface associated with some of the other home editions “beefed up” to make them business ready.
With that in mind, once the user gets the hang of the interface it really is easy to use. The learning curve is just a little steeper than with other applications.
Installing and setting up Guardian Digital is as easy as installing most other types of software. Once installed, the setting up took some time and wasn’t quite as easy as we would have liked it to have been.
With an annual subscription, Guardian digital will keep your systems updated and protected against the latest security threats. It should be noted that support is not included with your basic subscription, but once you pay for the service, the help and support is top-notch.
While the software isn’t cheap at $1895 for a 25 user license, the software provides excellent resources for those who need a strong security suite for their open sourced operating system.
