Firewall:  

The firewall can be configured in a variety of ways and can block most attacks from occurring. Verizon does have a disclaimer that although their firewall catches most attacks, nothing will prevent all attacks. That’s not too reassuring but we did find that the firewall was able to catch anything thrown at it.

The firewall’s settings can be changed to allow traffic on any port, or traffic can be blocked. There are a number of default settings which, unless you know what you are doing, should be left unchanged.
 

Antivirus:  

The antivirus function can help keep your computer free from malware that could potentially damage your computer and cause valuable data loss. The virus scan can be configured to run on a schedule or can be started manually. While the virus scan requires a vast amount of system resources to run, we found that it didn’t slow down our machine too much. We still found it best to let the virus scan run during off-peak times.

Antispyware:  

The antispyware function does a good job of keeping most pop-ups away and more importantly keeps malicious phishing software from being installed. The definitions for the spyware scanner updates itself every 3 hours. This ensures that you always have the latest definitions to keep your computer safe.

Other Security/Features:  

The simple, yet effective Verizon Small Business Security Suite offers a perpetual monthly subscription, which spares the users from having to renew each year.

The software can also be configured to limit user interaction to essential decisions and permissions (e.g. firewall rules).
 

Ease of Use:  

We found the Verizon Small Business Internet Security Suite easy to use. The relatively small list of features was easy to manage.

Ease of Installation/Setup:  

Installing the software suite was easy. The installation wizard guided us through the entire installation process. The default settings were sufficient to protect the needs of most small businesses. Again, it is clear that this software is designed for very small businesses by its simple-to-use interface.

Help/Support:  

Verizon offers all the standard help and support options such as telephone, e-mail, live chat, and a helpful FAQ section.

Verizon’s Business Security suite is a good way for the smallest of small businesses to get started protecting their computer systems.
