Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus is among the top 10 internet security software suites. While competitors begin to redesign products to place more of an emphasis on prevention at the cloud level and less of an emphasis on PC-installed code, Webroot has taken quite a plunge in favor of the cloud. The result is computer protection that is excellent and highly usable. However, perhaps because it minimizes the product code installed locally, Webroot is not as adept at disinfecting computers once malware has become established within the system.
Because Webroot installs a small code footprint and relies on cloud-based technologies, it treads lightly on computer system resources, which is why it achieved high usability scores in tests conducted by AV-Test in the autumn of 2012. Webroot's cloud-based approach to protection also served it well in tests designed by AV-Test to measure effectiveness at protecting against attacks. Webroot did not excel in tests conducted by AV-Test to measure its ability to clean and repair computers where malware had already taken up residence.
A full-fledged internet security suite, Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus protects against malware and spyware. It is unusual in two ways: It does not conflict with competing security software products and it has a small installation footprint because it takes advantage of cloud-based technologies. Bolstering Webroot's protection arsenal is a two-way firewall, which is significant because it controls traffic in both directions in order to prevent a successful malware intruder from contacting its sender once it attaches itself to the host.
Webroot has additional security features. It protects you from identity theft by blocking keyloggers and screengrabbers. It warns you if you are about to visit a website known to be fraudulent. You can also use Webroot to create and store passwords and then use them to log in to sites automatically.
Webroot provides good support, Monday through Friday. You can submit a ticket, telephone or use Twitter. The Webroot web site hosts frequently asked questions, user guides and tutorial videos.
Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus achieved excellent results in tests by AV-Test labs when it comes to protection and usability. However, in tests designed to show how well it repairs and cleans computers that are already lousy with malware, Webroot did not perform as well as some others.
Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus leverages cloud technologies to provide fast updates and minimize system slowdown.
The protection and repair scores are good but not best in class.
Webroot achieves praiseworthy usability scores as well as good protection and repair scores. Customer support is superb.
